Helvellyn stands at an elevation of 950 meters (3,117 feet) and is located in the Lake District. The mountain is probably one of the most popular in the lake district due to it’s central location and the exciting ridge scrambles. Striding Edge and Swirral Edge are easy to scramble routes but don’t let the fact I’ve called them easy fool you.
Striding Edge is a knife-edge ridge with serious drops on both sides. It can feel exposed and I’ve known people shuffle across them on their bottom to fearful of the exposure to stand up.
Taking in Striding edge on the way up and Swirral edge on the way down is a great little circular walk. You can also climb Catstye Cam on the way round if you fancy it.
