Helvellyn stands at an elevation of 950 meters (3,117 feet) and is located in the Lake District. The mountain is probably one of the most popular in the lake district due to it’s central location and the exciting ridge scrambles. Striding Edge and Swirral Edge are easy to scramble routes but don’t let the fact I’ve called them easy fool you.
Striding Edge is a knife-edge ridge with serious drops on both sides. It can feel exposed and I’ve known people shuffle across them on their bottom to fearful of the exposure to stand up.
Taking in Striding edge on the way up and Swirral edge on the way down is a great little circular walk. You can also climb Catstye Cam on the way round if you fancy it.
Rich is a Mountain Leader and regularly takes clients on endurance trips and mountain adventures. He’s climbed the three peaks challenge mountains more times than he cares to remember and his record is completing the 3 peaks 3 times within 3 weeks. He’s set to climb Scafell pike along with the 2 other highest mountains about 10 times in the coming year as part of a team with clients and other mountain leaders.
Whilst it’s never easy to complete the 3 Peaks Challenge, having a long background in hill walking, rock climbing, and being a keen 10,000-meter runner allows Rich to complete the challenge with ample reserves to take care of his clients.
